Supporters of the Red Roses find themselves unable to acquire the team’s jersey in advance of the Women’s Rugby World Cup due to a production shortfall from the kit supplier Castore.
This deficiency has caused frustration for the RFU, as reported by sources to ESPN. An England fan from Sunderland labeled the situation a “disgrace” since enthusiasts cannot buy the newest replica jersey that the Red Roses intend to sport during their World Cup journey.
The Red Roses are anticipated to claim the championship at home, and this has swiftly led to online retailers exhausting their stock. Some jerseys are currently being sold at significantly marked up prices on eBay.
The British brand Castore released a statement saying, “We can affirm that official England Rugby World Cup jerseys are currently in limited availability as fans persist in demonstrating their tremendous support for the Red Roses.
Online outlets have now run out, however, inventory will be provided at venues hosting England games.”
It has come to light that Castore erred in its order for the jerseys, and any attempts to replenish the stock would take longer than the duration of the World Cup.
While fans will have the opportunity to buy the jerseys at locations like the Stadium of Light, it is known that the inventory is limited.
In April, Castore assumed the responsibility of being the kit provider for the England team, taking over from Umbro. Although the standard Red Roses jersey featuring the O2 sponsorship is still available for purchase online, the special edition for the Rugby World Cup has already sold out.
According to tournament rules, teams are not allowed to display their own sponsors on the front of their kits, hence the jerseys that will be worn in the upcoming weeks will not feature any sponsorship, but will instead display the World Cup logo on the front.
