Warriors Anticipate Stephen Curry’s Return Friday Against Timberwolves

SAN FRANCISCO — Golden State Warriors superstar Stephen Curry is poised to make his comeback from a thigh contusion on Friday night when the team hosts the Minnesota Timberwolves.

“It’s looking promising,” head coach Steve Kerr said.

Curry sat out the Warriors’ recent three-game road swing, staying behind in San Francisco for rest and rehabilitation in hopes of gaining full clearance for Wednesday’s practice session.

After receiving the all-clear, Curry participated fully in contact drills and completed a six-minute scrimmage without any setbacks. Kerr indicated that Curry is slated to practice Thursday and should be ready to end his five-game absence on Friday.

In Curry’s absence, Golden State posted a 2-3 record and enters the matchup with a 13-12 overall mark, riding a bit of positive momentum after back-to-back road victories in Cleveland and Chicago last weekend. The Warriors have clamped down defensively, holding four of their last five opponents under 100 points and boasting the NBA’s third-best defensive rating.

Forward Draymond Green missed the previous two contests with a foot sprain and was absent from Wednesday’s practice due to an excused personal matter. Kerr expects him to return Thursday and is optimistic about his availability for Friday’s game against Minnesota.

Veteran center Al Horford, meanwhile, is not expected to suit up as he continues to manage sciatica.
