Utah Mammoth Star Logan Cooley Sidelined at Least 8 Weeks with Lower-Body Injury

SALT LAKE CITY — Utah Mammoth center Logan Cooley is set to miss a minimum of eight weeks due to a lower-body injury, the team announced Thursday.

General manager Bill Armstrong confirmed the timeline for the 21-year-old forward, who leads Utah with 14 goals this season.

Cooley suffered the injury on December 5 during a game in Vancouver when he slid into the net and collided leg-first with the right goal post. The eight-week absence will carry him through the NHL’s Olympic break in early February, potentially positioning him for a return when play resumes later that month.

The Mammoth have struggled without their top scorer, dropping all three games since Cooley went down, after holding a playoff spot on the night of the injury.

The extended absence also effectively rules out any slim remaining chance for Cooley to represent Team USA at the 2026 Winter Olympics in Milan.

Selected third overall in the 2022 NHL Draft by the then-Arizona Coyotes before the franchise relocated to Salt Lake City, Cooley has quickly emerged as one of the league’s brightest young talents. The Pittsburgh native signed an eight-year, $80 million contract extension in late October and has tallied 23 points (14 goals, 9 assists) in 29 games this season.
