Dallas Cowboys cornerback Trevon Diggs is set to make his highly anticipated return to the field, with the team officially activating the two-time Pro Bowler from injured reserve on Saturday ahead of their Week 16 matchup against the Los Angeles Chargers.
The move clears Diggs to play in Sunday’s game at AT&T Stadium (December 21, 2025, 1 p.m. ET), marking his first action since October 12 in a loss to the Carolina Panthers. To create roster space, the Cowboys placed fellow star cornerback DaRon Bland on injured reserve due to a left foot injury that may require surgery—his second such procedure in as many years.
Diggs, who has battled a concussion from an at-home incident and ongoing right knee issues, was placed on IR on October 25. Activating him by Saturday’s deadline was critical; otherwise, he would have remained sidelined for the remainder of the 2025 season.
Last week, Diggs expressed confidence in playing against the Minnesota Vikings, but head coach Brian Schottenheimer opted for caution, emphasizing the need for consistency in practice and rehab. Schottenheimer praised Diggs’ recent progress, noting on Friday: “What I’ve loved the most about him is he’s having fun playing football. He’s smiling, running around, and to his credit, he’s having a really good week.”
In his six games this season, Diggs recorded 20 tackles and one tackle for loss but has yet to register an interception or pass deflection.
With the Cowboys’ secondary thinned by Bland’s absence, Diggs’ return provides a timely boost as Dallas (6-7-1) aims to play spoiler against the playoff-contending Chargers (10-4). The game could mark a key step in Diggs re-establishing his All-Pro form amid an injury-plagued stretch.
