Toronto Blue Jays Pitcher José Berríos to Miss Start of Season with Elbow Stress Fracture

The Toronto Blue Jays will be without starting pitcher José Berríos at the beginning of the season after he was diagnosed with a stress fracture in his right elbow.

Berríos recently consulted Dr. Keith Meister after initially experiencing elbow inflammation, which led to the updated diagnosis. Manager John Schneider confirmed that the 31-year-old will take a short break from throwing before gradually returning to action.

While the team remains optimistic about his recovery timeline, Schneider noted that Berríos will not be fit in time for Opening Day but could return once he regains full strength and comfort on the mound.

Berríos is coming off a 2024 season where he posted a 9-5 record with a 4.17 ERA across 31 appearances. He finished the campaign on the injured list and did not feature in the postseason as Toronto advanced to the World Series.
