Toronto Blue Jays designated hitter George Springer exited a 7-4 loss to the Minnesota Twins after suffering a fractured big toe on his left foot during Saturday’s game. The injury occurred in the third inning when Springer fouled a pitch off his foot but still managed to finish the at-bat before leaving later for medical evaluation.
Manager John Schneider confirmed that Springer underwent an X-ray at the stadium before being sent for a CT scan to determine the full extent of the injury. The team expects further updates in the coming days as medical staff assess his recovery timeline and potential time away from the lineup.
Springer, Toronto’s leadoff hitter, entered the game batting .189 with two home runs and six RBIs this season. He remains a key figure for the Blue Jays, having played a major role in their run to the 2025 World Series, where he delivered strong offensive numbers and a decisive home run in Game 7 of the American League Championship Series against the Seattle Mariners.
The injury adds to mounting health concerns for Toronto, which already has multiple players sidelined. Injured position players include Anthony Santander, Alejandro Kirk, and Addison Barger, while pitcher Cody Ponce also exited early in his start due to a knee injury.
With Springer in the final year of his six-year contract, the Blue Jays may need to adjust their lineup strategy depending on the severity of the fracture, as the team navigates an early-season stretch impacted by injuries across the roster.
