Sources: Packers, Matt LaFleur expected to pursue contract extension

The Green Bay Packers are reportedly planning to negotiate a contract extension with head coach Matt LaFleur in the coming days, sources told ESPN’s Adam Schefter. LaFleur has one year remaining on his current deal, leaving his future in Green Bay uncertain, especially after Packers president Ed Policy expressed last June that he preferred not to have a lame-duck coach.

LaFleur’s position was further weakened following the Packers’ 31-27 NFC wild-card loss to the Bears, in which they blew an 18-point lead. LaFleur said Sunday he expects to speak with Policy soon but did not confirm whether he would coach on just one remaining year of his contract.

Under LaFleur, the Packers have gone 76-40-1 in the regular season and made the playoffs in six of seven seasons, but they have not reached the Super Bowl or a conference championship since 2020. LaFleur expressed his desire to stay in Green Bay, though he would likely be a top candidate for other openings if the team moved on.
