Sources: Mavericks’ Davis Dealing with Minor Groin Strain, Expected to Miss a Few Games

Dallas Mavericks star Anthony Davis has suffered a minor groin strain and is expected to miss several games, sources told ESPN’s Shams Charania on Friday.

Davis, who remains a prominent figure in trade discussions, will be monitored on a day-to-day basis. Dallas has been particularly cautious in managing his health this season and plans to continue that approach.

The Mavericks have listed Davis as questionable for Saturday’s road matchup against the Sacramento Kings due to soreness in his right adductor.

The injury occurred with 8:50 left in the second quarter of Dallas’ 126–116 loss to the Golden State Warriors on Christmas Day. Davis appeared to pull up while sprinting in transition to chase a long pass and immediately headed to the bench requesting a substitution. He was later ruled out at halftime because of right groin spasms.

Since joining Dallas in February as the centerpiece of the widely debated Luka Dončić trade, the 32-year-old has dealt with multiple muscle-related injuries. He was already rehabbing an abdominal strain at the time of the trade and then suffered a related adductor injury in his Mavericks debut, which sidelined him for 18 games. Earlier this season, he also missed 14 games with a left calf strain.

Dallas is 8–8 in games Davis has played this season, compared to a 4–12 record without him.
