Ravens Tight-Lipped on Lamar Jackson’s Status Ahead of Texans Matchup

The Baltimore Ravens are keeping things close to the vest regarding quarterback Lamar Jackson’s availability for Sunday’s crucial matchup against the Houston Texans.

Jackson did not participate in Wednesday’s practice after suffering a hamstring injury during the Ravens’ 37-20 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs last weekend. When asked about Jackson’s status, head coach John Harbaugh offered little clarity, emphasizing that the team is evaluating all injuries on a day-to-day basis. When pressed further about whether Jackson is considered “day-to-day,” Harbaugh responded, “How about I just don’t say anything? That’s what I would do. Why don’t we just leave it alone.”

Despite the lack of on-field activity, Jackson remains engaged with the team, attending all meetings and staying involved in preparation. “Lamar’s working,” Harbaugh said. “He is doing a great job.”

The former two-time NFL MVP has not missed a game due to injury since the end of the 2022 season. Historically, the Ravens have struggled without him, posting a 4-10 record in games he’s missed since 2018.

Should Jackson be unavailable Sunday, the Ravens will likely turn to backup quarterback Cooper Rush, who signed with the team this offseason after serving as a reserve with the Dallas Cowboys. “He’s a pro’s pro,” said tight end Mark Andrews. “He’s really dug into the offense and understands it extremely well. He’s ready to show what he’s capable of.”

The injury concerns extend beyond Jackson. Seven Ravens players missed Wednesday’s practice, including key starters such as offensive tackle Ronnie Stanley (ankle), linebacker Roquan Smith (hamstring), cornerbacks Nate Wiggins (elbow) and Marlon Humphrey (calf), and fullback Patrick Ricard (calf).

Despite the growing list of injuries and a 1-3 start—their worst in a decade—Andrews remains optimistic. “Everybody here in this organization is a fighter,” he said. “We’ve faced adversity before. There’s no quit in this group. I’m excited for us to show the world what we’re made of.”

With Jackson’s status up in the air, Baltimore enters Sunday’s game as a 1.5-point underdog at home.
