The Metropolitan Nashville Police Department reported that a noose was discovered at the site of the Tennessee Titans’ new Nissan Stadium, and they are currently looking into the matter.
The Tennessee Builders Alliance, which is in charge of building the stadium, announced that they have paused work at the site while the investigation takes place.
“This week, we found a racist and hateful symbol on our site. Hate and racism have no place in our workplace,” stated the Tennessee Builders Alliance. “We informed law enforcement about the incident, stopped work, and started our own investigation.”
They also mentioned that a reward is being offered for any information that helps identify the person responsible, and all workers will need to undergo extra anti-bias training.
The new stadium is expected to open in February 2027. Construction on the facility, which will hold 60,000 seats, began in 2024 and is estimated to cost $2.1 billion. Of that amount, $1.26 billion will come from public funding, making it the largest public subsidy for a stadium in the U.S.
Nashville Mayor Freddie O’Connell shared his worries about this incident and highlighted the city’s commitment to ensuring safety in workplaces.
“Clearly, we want to do everything we can to avoid situations based on fear or hate,” O’Connell said in a statement. “We’ve taken measures through local policies and state policy, along with partnerships to keep tensions low and prevent incidents like this from happening.
This is very troubling; there is an active investigation underway. I know the Titans are working with Metro Nashville Police, and we’ll see what comes out of that investigation.”
