The Philadelphia Eagles have strengthened their quarterback depth by trading for veteran QB Andy Dalton from the Carolina Panthers, sending a 2027 seventh-round draft pick in return.
Philadelphia has consistently focused on building a strong quarterback room, and the departure of Sam Howell in free agency created a gap behind starting quarterback Jalen Hurts and backup Tanner McKee.
McKee, a 2023 sixth-round pick, impressed last season as the Eagles’ No. 2 quarterback, starting one game and recording 274 passing yards, one touchdown, and one interception. Despite attracting trade interest previously, the Eagles remain confident in his development and are expected to retain him as the primary backup.
Dalton’s arrival adds experience to the roster as the 15-year NFL veteran brings nearly 40,000 passing yards, 254 touchdowns, and 151 interceptions over his career.
For the Panthers, the move provides financial flexibility, saving $2.1 million in 2026 salary cap space and $4 million in cash. Carolina is also reshaping its quarterback depth, recently signing Kenny Pickett to support young starter Bryce Young.
The deal highlights Philadelphia’s ongoing strategy to maintain depth and experience at quarterback as they prepare for the upcoming NFL season.
