Patriots RB TreVeyon Henderson (Concussion) Could Suit Up Against Jets

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. — The New England Patriots will be missing five starters for Sunday’s road matchup against the New York Jets, head coach Mike Vrabel confirmed, though rookie running back TreVeyon Henderson could be available as he continues through concussion protocol.

Already ruled out are wide receivers Kayshon Boutte (concussion) and Mack Hollins (abdomen); defensive end Harold Landry III (knee); linebacker Robert Spillane (ankle); and left guard Jared Wilson (concussion).

Defensive tackle Milton Williams (ankle), designated to return from injured reserve, will not be activated this week. His expected replacement, Khyiris Tonga, is also out with a foot injury. Reserve receiver DeMario “Pop” Douglas is listed as questionable with a hamstring issue.

“Everybody deals with it,” Vrabel said. “We’ll elevate some guys from the practice squad, sign others, and move forward.”

Henderson, who leads the Patriots with 776 rushing yards on 148 carries (5.2 avg.), left last Sunday’s comeback win over the Baltimore Ravens in the second quarter after hitting the back of his head while being tackled. He practiced in a limited, noncontact jersey Wednesday and took a step forward Friday, practicing fully in a regular jersey. Clearance for game action requires evaluation by an independent neurological consultant.

The Patriots (12-3) can clinch their first AFC East title since 2019 with wins in their final two games — at the Jets and at home against the Miami Dolphins. If they sweep those games and the Denver Broncos lose to the Los Angeles Chargers in Week 18, New England would secure the AFC’s No. 1 seed and a first-round bye. A win over the Jets would also give the team an 8-0 road record this season.

“I think that would mean a lot,” Vrabel said. “Nothing is guaranteed. You have to go there, prove it, and play.”
