NBA Hits 76ers with $100K Fine for Inaccurate Joel Embiid Injury Report

The NBA fined the Philadelphia 76ers $100,000 on Wednesday for breaching league injury-reporting policies surrounding Joel Embiid.

Philadelphia listed Embiid as out on its initial injury report ahead of Sunday’s game against the Atlanta Hawks, yet he ended up playing, violating the league’s requirement to provide timely and accurate availability updates.

The penalty reflects the 76ers’ repeated violations of these rules in recent years.

Making his return after a three-week absence, Embiid logged a season-high 30 minutes in the 142-134 double-overtime loss to Atlanta, finishing with 18 points (6-of-14 shooting). He sat out the entire second overtime period and was rested for injury-management purposes in Thursday’s game against Washington.

Philadelphia is next scheduled to face the Golden State Warriors on Thursday.
