The National Basketball Association has fined the Orlando Magic $25,000 for violating league injury reporting rules ahead of Monday night’s home game against the Detroit Pistons.
According to the league’s announcement, Orlando failed to accurately disclose the availability status of point guard Anthony Black on its official injury report. The Magic initially listed Black as out for the game, but the third-year guard ultimately returned to action after missing 15 games due to an abdominal strain.
Black made an immediate impact in his return, scoring 14 points while adding two assists and two steals in just 15 minutes of play. His performance helped Orlando secure a convincing 123-107 victory over Detroit, highlighting his importance to the team’s backcourt rotation.
The NBA stated that the fine was issued because the Magic did not properly update Black’s game availability status, which is required under league rules designed to maintain transparency and fairness for teams, fans, and stakeholders.
Black, who played college basketball at University of Arkansas, has been a key contributor for Orlando this season. The young guard is averaging 15.1 points and 3.8 assists across 62 games, including 40 starts, as he continues to establish himself as an important piece of the Magic’s roster.
The $25,000 fine serves as a reminder of the NBA’s strict enforcement of injury reporting policies, which aim to ensure accurate player availability information ahead of games and protect the integrity of the league.
