NASCAR has suspended driver Daniel Dye following a controversial livestream in which he mocked David Malukas, including making remarks that referenced the IndyCar driver’s sexuality.
The incident, which quickly spread across social media, showed Dye imitating voices—including Malukas’—in a manner widely criticized as inappropriate. In response, NASCAR handed down a suspension and mandated sensitivity training. Dye’s team, Kaulig Racing, also issued its own suspension.
Dye later released a public apology, describing his comments as “careless” and acknowledging that his words were offensive. He emphasized that he holds respect for members of the LGBTQ+ community and admitted he failed to meet the standard expected of him as a professional driver.
This marks the second major disciplinary action in Dye’s career. During his time in the ARCA Menards Series, he was previously suspended following an arrest related to a physical altercation at a Florida high school. He was later reinstated after the charge was reduced.
Currently competing in the NASCAR Truck Series, Dye is in his third full season and recently joined Kaulig Racing as part of Ram’s return to the sport. His best finish so far this season is 13th place at Atlanta.
The controversy occurred during a race weekend in St. Petersburg, where NASCAR’s Truck Series coincided with the IndyCar Series season opener, marking Malukas’ debut with Team Penske.
NASCAR’s swift action highlights its continued focus on driver conduct and maintaining professionalism both on and off the track.
