A woman is in jail after being accused, along with a former financial adviser, of stealing millions from former Miami Dolphins safety Reshad Jones.
An arrest report obtained by WPLG-TV on Thursday states that Isaiah Williams, who was Jones’ financial adviser, allegedly stole $1.58 million from him by accessing the ex-Pro Bowler’s personal bank account.
WPLG reported that court documents show Williams spent the money on luxury goods, legal fees, and child support.
Additionally, another $1.03 million was laundered from Jones’ account with the help of Octavia Monique Graham, whom Jones told investigators he had never met.
Jones’ lawyers released a statement on Thursday describing the alleged theft as “yet another troubling example of a professional athlete being taken advantage of by a wealth management firm he trusted.”
“In this situation, the wrongdoer held a Vice President position at one of the largest financial institutions in the world — Bank of America’s investment management division, Merrill Lynch,” said Chase Carlson and Jeff Sonn in their statement. “We have filed a lawsuit to hold Merrill Lynch responsible and are working to recover all damages our client has faced.”
Jail records indicate that Graham is being held at Paul Rein Detention Facility in Pompano Beach, Florida, charged with first-degree grand theft. WPLG also reported that Graham, 49, faces two counts of money laundering.
Williams has not yet been arrested for his role in this case, according to WPLG.
Jones played his entire 10-year NFL career with the Dolphins and made it to the Pro Bowl in 2015 and 2017; his last season was in 2019. He was drafted in the fifth round out of Georgia in 2010 and participated in 128 games during his NFL career, starting 113 of them.
According to Over The Cap, Jones earned over $56 million throughout his playing career.
