Miami Dolphins running back Alexander Mattison had surgery on his neck that will end his season, as reported by sources to ESPN’s Adam Schefter on Monday.
The injury occurred when Mattison got tackled during a 21-yard pass play in the preseason game against the Chicago Bears on Sunday. He was transported by ambulance to a nearby hospital, where the procedure was performed, according to the sources relaying information to Schefter.

He is anticipated to fully recuperate, as informed by sources to Jeremy Fowler of ESPN.
This offseason, the Dolphins acquired Mattison with a one-year deal, placing him third on their roster behind De’Von Achane and Jaylen Wright. Veteran running back Jamaal Williams is currently in Miami for a trial on Monday, according to Schefter.
At 27 years old, Mattison participated in 14 games and started in seven for the Las Vegas Raiders in 2024. He devoted his initial five years to the Minnesota Vikings and has accumulated 2,790 rushing yards along with 15 touchdowns throughout his career. Additionally, he has secured 136 receptions for 1,012 yards and has recorded seven touchdown catches.
