Kylian Mbappé is set to miss Real Madrid’s LaLiga match against Real Betis and remains doubtful for next week’s Spanish Supercopa, sources have told cbssports.net. The club confirmed on Wednesday that the forward has suffered a sprain to his left knee.
The league’s leading scorer with 18 goals this season did not train on Wednesday, despite featuring in Tuesday’s open session with supporters, according to sources. The issue affects the same knee that has been causing problems for the France international in recent weeks.
In a brief statement, Real Madrid said medical tests had confirmed a left knee sprain for Mbappé and added that his recovery would continue to be monitored.
Real Madrid welcome Betis to the Bernabéu on Sunday for their first match of 2026, before heading to Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, for the Spanish Supercopa. They face city rivals Atlético Madrid in the semifinal on Jan. 8, with a potential final against Barcelona or Athletic Club scheduled for Jan. 11.
Mbappé has featured from the start in all 18 of Real Madrid’s LaLiga matches this season, although he was absent from their Champions League clash with Manchester City on Dec. 10. He completed the full 90 minutes in three fixtures in the week leading up to Christmas — LaLiga games against Alavés and Sevilla, and a Copa del Rey tie versus Talavera de la Reina — finishing 2025 having equalled Cristiano Ronaldo’s club record of 59 goals in a single calendar year.
