Liverpool Legend Andy Robertson to Leave Liverpool at End of Season After Nine Years

Liverpool legend Andy Robertson will leave Liverpool FC at the end of the current season after nine successful years at Anfield, the Premier League club confirmed on Thursday.

The Scotland international defender has enjoyed a trophy-filled spell since joining Liverpool from Hull City in 2017. During his time at the club, Robertson won multiple major titles, including two Premier League titles, the UEFA Champions League, the FA Cup, two League Cups, the FIFA Club World Cup, the UEFA Super Cup, and the Community Shield.

Liverpool released an official statement confirming the departure of their long-serving left-back, stating that after nine hugely successful campaigns at Anfield, the Scotland captain will leave the club upon the expiry of his contract this summer. The club described him as a genuine Liverpool legend who played a fundamental role in the team’s success, making 373 appearances during his time at the club.

Robertson’s contract expires this summer, and his role in the starting lineup has reduced this season following the arrival of Milos Kerkez from AFC Bournemouth. The 32-year-old defender has made only 15 starts this season, signaling a transition period for Liverpool’s defense.

Reports earlier this year indicated that Liverpool held discussions with Tottenham Hotspur in January regarding a potential transfer after Robertson expressed interest in exploring a move. However, he ultimately chose to remain at Anfield due to defensive injuries within the squad.

Speaking about his departure, Robertson shared emotional thoughts about leaving Liverpool after nearly a decade of service, saying it is never easy leaving a club like Liverpool, which has been a huge part of his family’s life for nine years. He explained that he had opportunities to leave before but did not take them because of how difficult it was to walk away from the club.

Robertson added that football constantly evolves and believes now is the right time to move forward in his career. He said he will always look back on amazing memories at the club, noting that he gave his heart and soul to Liverpool and has very few regrets about his time there.

Although Robertson initially had to compete for his place under manager Jurgen Klopp, he eventually replaced Alberto Moreno as Liverpool’s first-choice left-back. From that point onward, he became a crucial part of Klopp’s tactical system and one of the most consistent performers in the squad, helping Liverpool return to the top of English and European football.

While Robertson remains humble about his status, many supporters and analysts widely consider him a Liverpool legend because of his consistency, leadership, and trophy-winning contributions. He stated that he prefers others to decide whether he deserves legendary status but remains proud of helping bring trophies back to the club and restore Liverpool to the level where it belongs.

As Andy Robertson prepares to leave Liverpool at the end of the season, he does so with a legacy of success, leadership, and unforgettable achievements that will be remembered by Liverpool supporters for years to come.
