Kraken Trade Mason Marchment to Blue Jackets in Exchange for Two Draft Picks

The Seattle Kraken have dealt forward Mason Marchment to the Columbus Blue Jackets, just six months after acquiring him from the Dallas Stars.

According to an NHL source, Columbus will send two draft selections to Seattle: a 2026 fourth-round pick originally owned by the New York Rangers and a 2027 second-round pick.

Blue Jackets general manager Don Waddell praised the addition, noting he has tracked Marchment since his tenure with the Carolina Hurricanes.

“Mason is a player I know extremely well,” Waddell said. “He brings physicality, grit, and offensive upside, and we’re excited to welcome him to Columbus.”

Marchment, 30, registered 13 points and four goals in 29 games for Seattle — a notable drop from his production in Dallas, where he netted 22 goals in 62 games last season. He is in the final year of a four-year, $18 million contract with a $4.5 million cap hit, and Seattle did not retain salary in the trade.

The Kraken initially viewed Marchment as a key addition when they acquired him in June for third- and fourth-round picks. However, Seattle has struggled recently, losing 10 of its past 11 games and failing to win in regulation since Nov. 20. The team sits at 12-14-6 and trails a Western Conference playoff spot by seven points.

Marchment joins a Columbus lineup sitting at 14-14-6 — a .500 record — but last place in the competitive Eastern Conference. The Blue Jackets rank 21st in league scoring with 2.88 goals per game.

The move comes just ahead of the NHL’s holiday roster freeze, which begins at midnight on Saturday and ends Dec. 28.
