Josh Okogie, Rockets agree to one-year, $3.1M deal

Free agent forward Josh Okogie has signed a one-year contract worth $3.1 million with the Houston Rockets, as reported by sources to ESPN.

At 26 years old, Okogie is starting his eighth season in the NBA and adds another strong wing defender to the Rockets’ roster. He has averaged 6.3 points over 416 games.

Last season, Okogie achieved career highs in field goal percentage, three-point shooting percentage, and effective field goal percentage, but he played in only 40 games, which is the lowest number for him in a season.

Rockets officials worked with Calvin Andrews from Klutch Sports to finalize the deal for Okogie. Last season, he averaged a personal best of 1.2 steals per game and ranked fourth in steals per 36 minutes among players who appeared in at least 40 games, according to ESPN Research.

Okogie was picked 20th overall in the 2018 NBA draft by the Minnesota Timberwolves. He played four seasons there before joining the Suns in 2022.

In January, Okogie was traded along with three future second-round picks to the Hornets, who released him on July 15.
