Harry Maguire stays put at Man United after club spurns transfer interest

Manchester United have been approached by other clubs regarding Harry Maguire.

Harry Maguire has disclosed that Manchester United has turned down inquiries regarding his availability this summer and suggested that he is eager to prolong his tenure by signing a fresh contract.

Maguire is embarking on his seventh season with the team after his transfer from Leicester City for £80 million ($107.7m) back in 2019.

In January, United activated a clause to prolong his contract until 2026.

However, the defender has indicated that this has not deterred clubs from showing interest during the summer transfer period.

“I believe there were a few clubs that possibly reached out or had discussions with them [United], and I think they received a prompt reply,” Maguire stated.

“I am quite certain the club has made it clear this summer that I am not available under any circumstances with other teams inquiring about my situation and contract.

“We’re in a strong position, optimistic as a club, and I feel that the leadership, along with Jason [Wilcox] and the manager, is steering us in the right direction.”

I believe that from the time I began six years ago to the current moment, everything has shifted significantly regarding the way the management team is structured.

Maguire was set to become a free agent this summer if Manchester United hadn’t decided to roll over his contract for another year.

As he enters the last year of his contract, he is permitted to engage in discussions with teams outside the Premier League starting January 1, provided that he does not reach a new arrangement with United.

The 32-year-old is remaining tight-lipped regarding his future plans, yet hinted that his desire is to continue at Old Trafford.

“Last year, the decision was made by them, so there wasn’t any choice for me. There was no discussion,” Maguire remarked while attending a holiday camp hosted by the Manchester United Foundation at Stretford High School.

“They simply triggered it, leading to an extension. This year, as you know, my contract concludes at the year’s end.

“I’m confident that in the upcoming months, they’ll engage in a discussion, and we’ll need to talk about our future direction and whether they wish to extend my contract, or the transfer window will open anew in January.

“I have certain thoughts about my aspirations and who I want to become. I prefer not to disclose everything publicly, but playing for such a remarkable club is incredible, and it would be unwise to want to leave it as quickly as possible.”
