Memphis Grizzlies rookie center Zach Edey will undergo reevaluation in four weeks due to a stress reaction in his left ankle—the same one that required offseason surgery.
“This is a proactive management strategy designed to protect Zach’s long-term health, developed in close collaboration with the Grizzlies and leading medical specialists,” Edey’s agent, Mark Bartelstein of Priority Sports, told ESPN. “Once this protocol is complete, both his short- and long-term outlook remains very positive.”
Edey had been on a strong run, posting averages of 16.5 points, 14 rebounds, and 2.2 blocks over his previous six outings, helping Memphis secure seven victories in their last nine games.
The 7-foot-4 center underwent surgery in June to repair and stabilize the ankle after suffering a sprain during offseason workouts. He missed the Grizzlies’ first 13 games of the season before making his debut on November 15.
For the year, Edey is averaging 13.6 points, a team-leading 11.1 rebounds, and 1.9 blocks per contest.
