SAN FRANCISCO — Golden State Warriors center Kristaps Porzingis was ruled out shortly before Sunday’s matchup against the Denver Nuggets because of what the team described as a general illness.
Head coach Steve Kerr said Porzingis was too unwell to even come to the arena.
The game would have marked Porzingis’ second appearance with the Warriors after being acquired in a trade from Atlantavia at the early February deadline. He made his debut for Golden State in Thursday night’s loss to the Boston Celtics.
In that outing, Porzingis recorded 12 points in 17 minutes and expressed confidence that he was ready to take on a larger role. He participated in practice sessions on Friday and Saturday, with Kerr indicating plans to gradually increase his playing time.
Porzingis has featured in just 18 games this season while managing Achilles tendinitis and ongoing effects from postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome, a condition affecting the autonomic nervous system.
The Warriors are set to begin a short road trip with games against the Memphis Grizzlies on Tuesday and the New Orleans Pelicans on Wednesday. Kerr noted that Porzingis’ status for those matchups remains uncertain.
