ANN ARBOR, Mich. — Recently fired Michigan Wolverines head coach Sherrone Moore remains in custody Thursday as the primary suspect in an alleged assault, with authorities confirming he is scheduled for arraignment on Friday.
The Washtenaw County Prosecutor’s Office told ESPN that no charging decision will be made Thursday and the case is still under active investigation. Few details about the incident have been released.

Moore, 39, was taken into custody Wednesday afternoon in the 3000 block of Ann Arbor-Saline Road by Pittsfield Charter Township police responding to a reported assault. Police described the incident as “not random” and stated there is no ongoing threat to the public.
The arrest came just hours after the University of Michigan announced it had fired Moore “with cause” following an internal investigation that found “credible evidence” he had engaged in an “inappropriate relationship with a staff member.”
In a campus-wide email Thursday, Michigan president Domenico Grasso wrote:
“When the findings of the University investigation into Coach Moore’s conduct were presented Wednesday, we immediately terminated his employment. There is absolutely no tolerance for this conduct at the University of Michigan.”
Grasso urged anyone with information related to the matter to contact the university.
Moore had served as Michigan’s head coach for two seasons after replacing Jim Harbaugh and previously worked as the team’s offensive coordinator. He was initially investigated this fall over the same staff-member allegations but was cleared at the time due to insufficient evidence. New information that emerged Wednesday was described by a source as “overwhelming,” prompting both his firing and the criminal probe.
Moore remains held at Washtenaw County Jail pending Friday’s court appearance.
