Florida State freshman linebacker Ethan Pritchard was shot on Sunday night and is in critical but stable condition in the ICU at a hospital near Tallahassee, according to the university.
The Gadsden County Sheriff’s Office reported that Pritchard was in a vehicle outside an apartment complex in Havana, Florida, approximately 16 miles from Tallahassee near the Georgia border, when the incident occurred.
The investigation into the shooting is ongoing.

During his weekly press conference on Monday, Florida State coach Mike Norvell shared that he was with Ethan Pritchard’s family at the hospital on Sunday night following the shooting.
Norvell described the incident as a tragic event, expressing gratitude for the medical care Pritchard received and noting the support from the football team, coaches, and community. He emphasized their prayers for Pritchard’s recovery and appreciation for community support.
Florida State’s statement noted that Pritchard was visiting family when he was shot and conveyed the family’s gratitude for the support from first responders, medical professionals, and others, while requesting privacy. Pritchard, a freshman linebacker from Sanford, Florida, who enrolled at FSU in January, did not participate in the team’s season-opening win against Alabama.
