Ferrari boss admits underestimating challenge with Hamilton

Ferrari boss Fred Vasseur admitted that he and Lewis Hamilton underestimated the challenges he’d face joining the team.

Despite the hype surrounding his move, Hamilton’s first year with Ferrari has been tough, with no podiums so far.

After a difficult Hungarian GP, Hamilton expressed frustration, suggesting the team might need to change drivers and hinting at internal issues.

However, Vasseur defended Hamilton, downplaying the criticism and acknowledging that both he and Hamilton were naive about the scale of the challenge.

Lewis Hamilton joined Fred Vasseur at Ferrari at the beginning of this season.

Ferrari boss Fred Vasseur admitted that he and Lewis Hamilton underestimated the challenge of adapting to the new team, given Hamilton’s 18-year stint with Mercedes and McLaren-Mercedes.

Vasseur said they “stupidly” expected Hamilton to immediately have everything under control at Ferrari.

Meanwhile, teammate Charles Leclerc has already scored five podiums this season, highlighting the contrast in form.

Hamilton, who signed a lucrative £60m-a-year deal, has been focused on next season’s championship challenge, when new F1 rules come into effect.
