The Miami Dolphins have finalized a trade to send three-time All-Pro cornerback Jalen Ramsey and tight end Jonnu Smith to the Pittsburgh Steelers. In return, they will receive three-time All-Pro safety Minkah Fitzpatrick along with a swap of picks.
This trade, which is still waiting on physical exams, includes the Dolphins giving the Steelers a seventh-round pick in 2027 while getting back a fifth-round pick from Pittsburgh for the same year.

Ramsey’s pay will increase by $1.5 million this season, raising his total earnings for 2025 to $26.6 million, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter. The Steelers will cover most of Ramsey’s contract this year, with the Dolphins responsible for $3 million, as per Schefter’s report. Additionally, Smith will get a one-year extension worth $12 million, as confirmed by agents Drew Rosenhaus and Robert Bailey.
At 30 years old, Ramsey announced his move to Pittsburgh on social media, saying, “Break my own news! #HereWeGo @steelers.”
Fitzpatrick is returning to Miami, where he started his career after the Dolphins picked him 11th overall in the 2018 draft. In 2019, the Dolphins traded him to the Steelers because he was unhappy with his role on the team after former coach Brian Flores changed his position from safety to nickelback.
Ramsey, who has made 24 interceptions in his career, joins a strong group of cornerbacks with the Steelers. Earlier this offseason, they signed Darius Slay Jr. and still have their current starter Joey Porter Jr.
With Fitzpatrick gone, DeShon Elliott, who signed a two-year contract extension this offseason, is now the most experienced safety for Pittsburgh. However, Ramsey has played as a cornerback throughout his nine years in the NFL and might switch to safety. The Steelers also brought in free safety Juan Thornhill, a former second-round pick from the Kansas City Chiefs, during free agency.
