Devils Land Nick Bjugstad in Deal With Blues Ahead of Olympic Roster Freeze

NEWARK, N.J. — The New Jersey Devils acquired veteran forward Nick Bjugstad from the St. Louis Blues on Wednesday in a trade finalized just before the Olympic roster freeze.

In exchange, the Devils sent the Blues a conditional fourth-round draft pick and minor-league forward Thomas Bordeleau. The selection marks the final fourth-round pick New Jersey currently controls among its own and those previously acquired from Dallas and Winnipeg.

Bjugstad, 33, has recorded seven points in 35 games this season after signing with St. Louis as a free agent. His addition signals the Devils’ first move utilizing the salary cap flexibility created by trading winger Ondrej Palat to the New York Islanders.

The veteran forward is under contract through next season with a team-friendly cap hit of $1.75 million per year. Bordeleau had joined the Devils earlier this season as part of a trade with the San Jose Sharks.
