Dallas Cowboys safety Markquese Bell has been arrested and charged with felony possession of a controlled substance and misdemeanor marijuana possession, according to jail records in Frisco. The arrest was carried out by police in Prosper on Friday night following a traffic stop.
Authorities reported that an officer detected the smell of marijuana during the stop, which led to a search of Bell’s vehicle. Police stated that less than two ounces of marijuana and a THC electronic cigarette were discovered, resulting in his arrest. The felony charge relates to possession of a controlled substance, while the marijuana possession charge is classified as a Class B misdemeanor.
Bell could also face disciplinary action from the National Football League under its personal conduct policy. The Cowboys organization acknowledged awareness of the arrest but declined to provide further comment.
Bell’s agent, Deiric Jackson, said the player intends to allow the legal process to proceed before addressing the matter publicly. The safety is currently entering the second year of a three-year, $9 million contract with Dallas after originally joining the team as an undrafted free agent in 2022.
During the previous season, Bell started three of 17 games and recorded 34 tackles, one sack, one pass deflection, and one quarterback pressure, along with 10 special teams tackles, making him a key depth player on the Cowboys roster.
