Cleveland Browns QB Shedeur Sanders sits out practice with oblique injury

Cleveland Browns quarterback Shedeur Sanders sustained an oblique injury on Wednesday morning, as reported by the team, causing him to miss the initial session of joint practices with the Eagles.
Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski informed ESPN’s Sal Paolantonio following the practice that Sanders experienced discomfort in his oblique during the warm-up, leading to an abrupt cancellation of his practice plans.
An insider disclosed to ESPN that Sanders is scheduled for an MRI to assess how serious the injury is.

During the 7-on-7 and 11-on-11 drills, Sanders was the only Browns quarterback who did not participate in any practice reps. Joe Flacco, Kenny Pickett, Dillon Gabriel, and Tyler Huntley all took their turns on Wednesday.
Sanders’ injury adds to a series of setbacks that have affected the quarterback room amid an ongoing competition. Pickett and Gabriel have recently been hindered by hamstring issues. Pickett strained his hamstring on July 26 and has not yet taken part in any 11-on-11 drills.

Sanders was absent from practice on August 2 after mentioning soreness in his arm.
Prior to the practice, Stefanski stated that Sanders would be the starter for the second preseason game against the Eagles on Saturday if Pickett and Gabriel were unable to participate.
Selected 144th overall in the 2025 NFL draft, Sanders took the role of starter in the Browns’ preseason opener due to the injuries affecting Pickett and Gabriel. During his time on the field, Sanders played for 45 snaps and connected on 14 out of 23 passes, totaling 138 yards and two touchdowns.
