The Green Bay Packers, Cincinnati Bengals, and the entire NFL community are grieving a terrible loss this Tuesday. Late Monday night, news broke that a 20-year-old soccer star had sadly passed away.

Chase was discovered dead in his dorm at DePaul, having died on Monday, as reported by the school newspaper, DePaulia. In an email to the university community, Rob Manuel, the president of the university, shared that the student-athlete was “known for his warmth, strong character, and lively spirit.”
Vice President and Director of Athletics DeWayne Peevy and head men’s soccer coach Mark Plotkin released a joint statement expressing their heartbreak over the loss. They described Chase Stegall as a “dedicated teammate and kind-hearted friend.” They also mentioned that “his absence will be deeply felt throughout our entire Athletics department and university family, and his memory will always remain part of DePaul University.”
Chase was just 20 years old. He is survived by his parents, Milton and Darlene Stegall, as well as his brother Collin. Last season, he participated in 16 out of DePaul’s 17 games. The CFL’s Winnipeg Blue Bombers, where his father excelled as a player, also issued a statement calling Chase a bright and talented individual with a promising future. They added that “his loss is felt profoundly across our entire Blue Bombers family.”
