AS Monaco have excluded Paul Pogba from their Champions League squad for the knockout rounds to accommodate new January arrivals, sources have told ESPN.
The 32-year-old midfielder has had limited involvement this season, making just three appearances since joining the club. Pogba has not played since early December, with his minutes restricted to brief substitute outings against Rennes, Paris Saint-Germain, and Brest.
Pogba returned to football with Monaco last June following an 18-month doping suspension but faced ongoing fitness challenges. After initial conditioning issues, he suffered minor thigh and ankle injuries, and is currently recovering from a calf problem sustained in early December. He is expected to return to action in the coming days.
Monaco bolstered their squad during the January transfer window with the signings of Simon Adingra and Wout Faes. Both players are expected to play key roles in the upcoming Champions League playoff ties against PSG later this month, prompting the club’s decision to leave Pogba out, as he is unlikely to start.
