Former Coyote Joey Lombard signs with Kansas City Chiefs

Joey Lombard, a four-year starter on the Coyote offensive line, has signed a contract with the Kansas City Chiefs, the two-time defending NFL champions. He shared this exciting news on social media on Thursday.

This announcement follows Lombard’s participation in the first day of mandatory minicamp practices after being invited back by the Chiefs. He had impressed them during his rookie minicamp workouts after the NFL Draft in May.

Throughout his college career at USD, Lombard played in 48 games, mostly as a center but also spent time at left guard early on. Hailing from Anoka, Minnesota, he earned MVFC All-Conference honors twice (2023, 2024) and was named an All-American in his senior year.

“Joey definitely has the skills, dedication, and professionalism to be a valuable player in the NFL,” said head football coach Travis Johansen. “Kansas City is getting another Yote who will enhance their team every day.

We are all proud of Joey’s achievements and even more excited about what he will accomplish!”

After the 2024 season, he earned Second Team All-America honors from the AP and Third Team recognition from STATS Perform. He served as the captain of the offensive line at center, helping his team rank second in the FCS for fewest tackles for loss allowed (2.93), sixth in rushing offense (215.9), and ninth in total offense per game (436.9).

He will be joining former Coyote Jack Cochrane on the team. Lombard also reunites with his former teammate JJ Galbreath as an undrafted free agent heading into the 2025 season.
