Formula 1 steward Derek Warwick has been removed from his role for this weekend’s Canadian Grand Prix due to “recent unauthorized media comments.”

The FIA announced this change on Friday evening, stating that Enrique Bernoldi will take over remotely from their operations center in Geneva. In the announcement, the FIA noted that Warwick admitted his remarks were inappropriate.
While specifics weren’t given, report says that his comments were made on various topics to a gambling website.
Warwick discussed the penalty given to Max Verstappen (decided by a different group of stewards) at the Spanish Grand Prix, which put the current champion close to facing a one-race ban.
He also mentioned that Lewis Hamilton might be thinking about leaving Ferrari after struggling early in his time with the Italian team.
Warwick is expected to return to his duties for the Austrian Grand Prix in two weeks. Earlier this year, Jonny Herbert had to completely step back from the panel of stewards due to “incompatible” media work, which included regular interviews with betting websites.
