Lam to be at Bears for ‘foreseeable’ – Tainton

Pat Lam, the director of rugby, will remain with Bristol Bears for the “foreseeable future,” according to Tom Tainton, the club’s chief operating officer. Although Lam has been mentioned as a potential head coach for Wales, he is under contract with the Premiership club until 2028.

On Friday night, Bristol lost to Bath with a score of 34-20, falling just short of making it to their first Premiership final. Tainton told BBC Radio Bristol, “It’s a sign of what Pat has accomplished here at Bristol Bears that he’s being considered for that role.”

He continued, “Regarding the Wales position, I can say with complete certainty that Pat Lam is contracted to Bristol Bears and will remain so. We have many goals left to achieve during his contract until 2028. I’m very happy to confirm that Pat will be at Bristol Bears for the foreseeable future.”

Lam has been leading the Bears since 2017 and helped them move up from the Championship in his first season. The team topped the Premiership table in 2021 and has reached the play-offs three times this season. However, they have yet to make it to a Twickenham final or win any trophies.

After their loss at the Recreation Ground, the 56-year-old expressed his excitement about next season and stated that he still feels motivated to strive for a title with Bristol. Tainton added, “Our goal is to be among the top teams in both domestic and European rugby and ultimately win silverware.”
