On Sunday, it was announced that Springbok coach Rassie Erasmus has invited Stormers No 8 Evan Roos to join his team for the match against the Barbarians and the upcoming series against Italy and Georgia. This brings the total number of players in his squad to 55.
This decision follows Bulls player Cameron Hanekom’s hamstring injury during the URC semi-final against the Sharks, which created a need for another option at eighthman.
Roos participated in the first alignment in Cape Town back in February and has played seven times in the green and gold. His last Test appearance was against Portugal in Bloemfontein during the 2024 Incoming Series, but he had to take a break for several months due to shoulder surgery.
The Springbok squad will gather in Johannesburg on Sunday afternoon and will start their training on Monday, getting ready for the international season that kicks off in less than three weeks.
