“Xavier Worthy from the Chiefs shares the important ‘stepping stone’ that helped him improve in his second year as a rookie.”

The journey of an NFL rookie isn’t always easy, and for Kansas City Chiefs receiver Xavier Worthy, his first season had its ups and downs.

While he was still getting used to the playbook and figuring out how Patrick Mahomes plays, Worthy only achieved over 40 yards in two of his first nine games. However, everything changed after the Week 10 loss to the Buffalo Bills, as he began to find his rhythm.

Worthy then went on to have seven straight games with more than 40 yards and kept that momentum going in the playoffs, racking up 287 yards and three touchdowns across three games (including 157 yards in the Super Bowl loss).

Although he started slowly, he ended the season strong, and he wants to keep that momentum going. “The end of last year was like a stepping stone for me,” Worthy said. “I learned more about what Pat likes, and I felt like I improved at the end of the season. I just want to build on that.”

Worthy had a solid regular season with 58 catches, 638 yards, and six touchdowns. As he heads into his second year, he’ll benefit from the return of Rashee Rice and what Kansas City hopes will be an improved Marquise Brown. Speed remains Xavier’s strongest asset, forcing defenses to guard against his deep passes.

However, he also proved he can contribute in other ways, effectively running quick slants and jet sweeps. The Chiefs are eager to recover from their disappointing Super Bowl loss, and Worthy might just be the player who ignites their passion. His strong finish last season could lead to even greater achievements in 2025.
