San Francisco 49ers Sign Cornerback Jack Jones to One-Year Deal to Boost Secondary Depth

San Francisco 49ers have strengthened their defensive backfield after agreeing to a one-year contract with free agent cornerback Jack Jones. The deal was confirmed after Jones visited the team’s facility, with his agent Drew Rosenhaus stating that both sides finalized the agreement on Friday.

Jones, 28, was originally selected in the fourth round of the 2022 NFL Draft by the New England Patriots and most recently played for the Miami Dolphins, where he started all 17 games last season. During that campaign, he recorded one interception, two forced fumbles, and six passes defended, showcasing his ability to contribute consistently in coverage.

Known for his effectiveness in press-man coverage, Jones is expected to fit well into the defensive system led by coordinator Raheem Morris. He will provide valuable depth behind starting outside cornerbacks Deommodore Lenoir and Renardo Green as the 49ers look to reinforce their secondary ahead of the upcoming season.

Jones showed early promise during his rookie year with New England before being released midway through his second season. He later joined the Las Vegas Raiders, where he made headlines by returning interceptions for touchdowns in consecutive victories over the Los Angeles Chargers and the Kansas City Chiefs.

Although his performance dipped the following season, Jones brings valuable experience to San Francisco’s roster. Across four NFL seasons, he has totaled eight interceptions and 33 passes defended, including four career interception returns for touchdowns — the second-highest total in the league since he entered the NFL in 2022.
