The San Francisco 49ers have agreed to a one-year contract with free agent defensive end Cam Sample, according to a source cited by NFL Network on Thursday.
Sample joins San Francisco after spending four seasons with the Cincinnati Bengals, where he developed a reputation as a versatile depth player on the defensive line. Since entering the league as a fourth-round pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, the former Tulane University standout has played multiple roles, contributing both as an interior defensive lineman and an edge rusher.

During the 2025 season, Sample appeared in 14 games and made two starts, recording two sacks and 17 total tackles. The season marked an important comeback for the 26-year-old defender, who missed the entire 2024 campaign after suffering a serious Achilles injury that sidelined him for the year.
Over the course of his four-year NFL career, Sample has totaled seven sacks and 85 tackles, showcasing his ability to provide reliable depth and rotational support along the defensive front. His addition gives the 49ers increased defensive line flexibility as the team continues to strengthen its roster ahead of the upcoming National Football League season.
The one-year deal offers Sample an opportunity to rebuild momentum after his injury setback while providing the 49ers with an experienced defensive option capable of contributing in multiple defensive schemes.
