Rams’ Matthew Stafford sprains index finger but expected to play

LOS ANGELES — Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford suffered a sprain to the index finger on his throwing hand but is expected to be “good to go” for Sunday’s game against the Chicago Bears, coach Sean McVay said Monday.

Stafford injured the finger Saturday during the Rams’ playoff win over the Carolina Panthers while attempting a pass to Puka Nacua late in the first half. Stafford said his finger bent backward on the play. McVay added that X-rays on the finger taken Sunday were negative and that Stafford likely won’t need any protective gear. “He’s as tough as it gets,” McVay said.

Stafford finished the game 24 of 42 for 304 yards, three touchdowns, and one interception. McVay also provided updates on other players: right guard Kevin Dotson is progressing well from a Week 16 ankle injury, rookie tight end Terrance Ferguson is expected to return after missing two games with a hamstring issue, and cornerback Ahkello Witherspoon will miss the rest of the postseason after reinjuring his shoulder.
