Haydn Fleury Returns to Jets Following Violent Board Collision

WINNIPEG, Manitoba — Haydn Fleury returned to the Winnipeg Jets on Wednesday after a frightening incident in which he crashed into the boards and had to be stretchered off the ice.

Coach Scott Arniel said Fleury, who spent the night in the hospital, suffered a broken nose and a bruised back, and it remains unclear whether he sustained a concussion. After Tuesday’s game against the Vegas Golden Knights, the Jets reported that Fleury was fully alert and moving his limbs.

“He was banged up pretty good,” Arniel said. “He felt it. But it’s great to see him here today and around the room.” Fleury has been placed on injured reserve, which will sideline him for at least the next three games.

The collision occurred in the first period when Fleury was checked in the chest by Golden Knights forward Keegan Kolesar, who was not penalized. Winnipeg’s bench cleared in support as Fleury was stretchered off, and later in the game, Jets captain Adam Lowry confronted Kolesar on the ice.
