Troy Aikman Joins Miami Dolphins as Consultant for GM Search

The Miami Dolphins have enlisted Hall of Fame quarterback and ESPN analyst Troy Aikman to serve as a consultant during their search for a new general manager, sources confirm. While not a permanent position, Aikman will provide guidance and an outside perspective throughout the hiring process.

The Dolphins’ ownership sought a respected voice with strong connections across the NFL, and Aikman brings decades of experience as both a player and broadcaster. His advisory role will not interfere with his responsibilities as a Monday Night Football analyst; he is scheduled to call Saturday night’s game between the Seattle Seahawks and San Francisco 49ers, which will determine the NFC’s No. 1 seed.

Miami parted ways with longtime GM Chris Grier on Halloween after a 2-7 start to the season. Head coach Mike McDaniel has remained in charge, guiding the team to a 5-2 record since Grier’s departure. The Dolphins currently sit at 7-9 heading into Sunday’s season finale against the New England Patriots.

Grier had been with the Dolphins since 2000 and served as general manager from 2016. During his tenure, the team posted five winning seasons and made three playoff appearances but did not record a postseason victory, leaving Miami with the longest active playoff win drought in the NFL at 25 years.

Currently, Champ Kelly is serving as the team’s interim GM as the Dolphins finalize their search for a permanent successor
