WACO, Texas — Baylor freshman running back Caden Knighten was immobilized and removed from the field on a stretcher late in the third quarter of Saturday’s game against Houston after taking a hard hit to the back.
Knighten was stuffed for no gain and remained motionless face-down on the turf. Play stopped for several minutes as more than a dozen medical staff rushed to his side, with the entire stadium falling silent. Head coach Dave Aranda stood nearby watching the scene.
Trainers carefully rolled Knighten onto a backboard, removed his face mask, and loaded him onto a cart. As he was secured, Knighten raised his right fist, briefly covered his face with both hands, and then lifted his left hand toward the Baylor sideline while being driven off.
The school provided no immediate update on his condition.
