Canadiens’ Kirby Dach sidelined 4-6 weeks with fractured foot

MONTREAL – The Montreal Canadiens announced Sunday that forward Kirby Dach will miss the next four to six weeks after suffering a fractured foot.

The 24-year-old center sustained the injury during Saturday’s 3-2 loss to the Boston Bruins, where he logged 14:43 of ice time and registered one shot on goal. Dach has five goals and seven points in 15 games this season.

The setback is the latest in a string of significant injuries for Montreal. On Friday the team revealed that defenseman Kaiden Guhle will be out up to 10 weeks following adductor surgery, while forward Alex Newhook is expected to miss four months after undergoing surgery for a broken ankle. Those absences follow the earlier announcement that winger Patrik Laine will be sidelined three to four months after core muscle surgery.

For Dach, the No. 3 overall pick in 2019, this marks another frustrating chapter. He played only two games in 2023-24 because of a torn ACL and MCL, then missed an additional 25 contests the following season with another knee injury.

Entering Sunday, the Canadiens sat at 10-6-2, second in the Atlantic Division and two points behind Boston, but have dropped three straight and five of their last six, being outscored 15-3 during the current skid.
