Philadelphia 76ers center Joel Embiid will miss Tuesday night’s matchup with the Boston Celtics due to soreness in his right knee and is currently under evaluation by team physicians, the organization announced.
Embiid has a history of problems with his left knee, including arthroscopic surgery last season that sidelined him for the second half of the schedule. The 2022-23 MVP returned from that procedure earlier this year, posting 19.7 points across 23.3 minutes per game in six appearances since his October 22 debut. He has continued to sit out the second game of back-to-backs.
Philadelphia next travels to Detroit on Friday before hosting the LA Clippers on Monday.
The 76ers have opened the season at a strong 6-4 in the East, powered by standout performances from Tyrese Maxey and rookie VJ Edgecombe.
