According to ESPN sources, Nottingham Forest have named Ange Postecoglou as their new manager, replacing Nuno Espirito Santo, who was sacked on Monday.
Postecoglou, who signed a contract until June 2027, takes over after being dismissed by Tottenham Hotspur in June, where he won the UEFA Europa League in May, ending Spurs’ 17-year trophy drought. He is set to manage Forest’s upcoming match against Arsenal on Saturday at the Emirates Stadium.
Nuno’s departure was sudden, occurring just three games into the season, despite leading Forest to a seventh-place finish in the Premier League last season, securing European football for the first time since 1996.
Nottingham Forest earned a Europa League spot after Crystal Palace was relegated to the UEFA Conference League due to multi-club ownership rules.
ESPN sources report that Nuno Espirito Santo’s exit followed tensions with Forest’s head of global football, Edu Gaspar, and a deteriorating relationship with owner Evangelos Marinakis, despite Nuno signing a three-year contract in June.
Nuno’s future was questioned earlier when he admitted to a strained relationship with Marinakis, stating, “Where there’s smoke, there’s fire,” but vowed to focus on his role.

At Spurs, he secured a fifth-place Premier League finish in 2023-24, followed by a 17th-place finish last season, but won the Europa League, defeating Manchester United 1-0 in the final. Despite this, he was sacked 16 days later.
Postecoglou brings extensive experience, having coached in Australia, led the Socceroos (2013-2017), managed Yokohama F. Marinos in Japan, and enjoyed success at Celtic (2021-2023) before his Tottenham tenure. He now moves from north London to Nottingham Forest’s City Ground.
