Buccaneers part ways with rookie safety Shilo Sanders.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers notified rookie safety Shilo Sanders on Sunday that he is being released, as reported by his agents to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

Agents Drew Rosenhaus and Robert Bailey mentioned to Schefter their hope that Sanders will be picked up off waivers.

NFL franchises are presently in the process of reducing their rosters to 53 players by the deadline on Tuesday.

This announcement follows Sanders being ejected from Tampa Bay’s third preseason outing against the Buffalo Bills on Saturday evening for throwing a punch.

During the second quarter, Sanders struck tight end Zach Davidson, who was blocking him, after a significant amount of shoving occurred. Bucs linebacker John Bullock attempted to soothe Sanders afterward, and Tampa Bay coach Todd Bowles observed Sanders as he returned to the sideline.

Bowles commented on the occurrence after Tampa Bay’s 23-19 defeat. “You cannot throw punches in this league — that is unacceptable,” Bowles stated. “They will penalize you every time. You need to learn from that.”

In addition, Sanders received a penalty for pass interference in the first quarter of the match.

He has been vying for the fourth and last safety position alongside Kaevon Merriweather and Rashad Wisdom to provide support for Antoine Winfield Jr., Tykee Smith, and Christian Izien.

Sanders, whose father is Pro Football Hall of Famer Deion Sanders, had joined the Buccaneers after going undrafted.
