Mavericks center Dereck Lively II has foot surgery

Dallas Mavericks center Dereck Lively II had surgery to remove bone spurs from his right foot, sources informed ESPN’s Shams Charania on Tuesday. He should be ready for training camp in September.

Lively missed over two months last season because of a stress fracture in his right ankle, which was one of several injuries that affected the Dallas team. He has faced some injury challenges early in his NBA career and has played in only 91 regular-season games during his first two years.

At 21 years old, Lively is one of three important players on the Mavericks who will be going through rehab this summer, along with Kyrie Irving and Anthony Davis.

Irving tore his ACL late last season and is likely to miss most of the upcoming year. Davis had surgery to fix a detached retina from last season but should be ready for training camp.

As they approach next season, the Mavericks are set to have a new roster featuring top pick Cooper Flagg, who will join a strong frontcourt that includes Lively, Davis, Daniel Gafford, and P.J. Washington.
