Liverpool made club to club approach with Newcastle to discuss record bid for Alexander Isak.

Liverpool has shown interest in signing Alexander Isak, a forward from Newcastle United, this summer as they look for a new No. 9, according to a source from ESPN.

The Premier League champions are searching for a new center-forward because there is uncertainty about Darwin Núñez’s future, with Napoli being one of the clubs looking to sign the Uruguayan player this summer.

On Tuesday, Liverpool also rejected a €67.5 million (£78.5m) offer from Bayern Munich for forward Luis Díaz. While the Reds haven’t made a formal bid for Isak yet, they have reached out to Newcastle to check on his availability, similar to what they’ve done with other forward options.

Newcastle has made it clear that they do not want to let their Swedish player, who has scored 62 goals in 102 games for the team, leave this summer.

Liverpool has already set a new transfer record by signing Florian Wirtz from Bayer Leverkusen for a deal that could reach up to £116 million, which is a British record. It will likely take even more money for Newcastle to agree to let Isak go this summer.

According to sources speaking with ESPN, Newcastle is also trying to sign Hugo Ekitike, a forward from Eintracht Frankfurt, so he can play alongside Isak in the attack.

While Liverpool has shown interest in the player, they are reportedly not fully convinced about the 23-year-old. Meanwhile, Newcastle plans to increase their offer to Frankfurt in the next few days.
